Fun, education, inspiration and oodles of good vocal techniques: – these were on the menu for the 30 High School students who came to our Audition Workshop on Saturday September 29th, 2018.
We started off with a full rehearsal, integrating the students with our professional singers, directed by Dr. Eric Johnson. We then broke off into sectional rehearsals, directed by Dr. J and our singers. We then had sight-reading and tonal skills practice in small groups, led by our singers. And finally, we offered realistic, individual mock auditions, adjudicated by our singers, with score sheets and feedback given.
All of this gave the students an amazing opportunity to practice and refine all the skills needed to pass the very selective ILMEA Choir auditions, coming up next month.
We had a lot of positive feedback from the students and directors afterwards. They appreciated the time and care that our singers took with each student, both in the auditions and in the practice sessions.
We look forward to doing it again next year!
